Making responsibility explicit after an AI launch
How should an AI-enabled product be monitored, scaled and recovered after launch?
The situation
An AI-enabled product had reached production. I used the operating review to examine what would happen as usage increased: how we would detect deterioration, who would act, and how we would recover from a failed release.
My contribution
I asked the team to demonstrate the monitoring available and explain how capacity constraints would be handled. When a dependency required action with an external provider, I asked for a named owner to take it forward. For deployment, I proposed extending an existing validation approach and requested recovery options with their trade-offs.
My reasoning
My thinking was that technical readiness includes the decisions around the software: what we monitor, when we intervene, who has responsibility and what we can reverse.
What changed
The review made those operating questions explicit and assigned follow-up work. Completion of that work and any improvement in reliability remained to be verified.
